Casey Collins was strong at the plate and on the rubber in carrying the Las Cruces Vaqueros (11-24) to a 27-2 victory over the Las Vegas Train Robbers on Wednesday at Apodoca Park.
Collins racked up four RBIs on five hits for the Las Cruces Vaqueros. He homered in the third inning, singled in the second and third innings, and doubled in the seventh inning.
Collins struck out nine, paving the way for a the Las Cruces Vaqueros win. Collins allowed two earned runs, six hits and three walks over nine innings.
Twenty-three runs in the opening three innings allowed the Las Cruces Vaqueros to easily put away the Las Vegas Train Robbers (12-21). A sacrifice fly by Albert Traxler in the first inning and an RBI single by Collins, , a three-run double by Traxler, an RBI double by Josh Cunningham, a two-run single by Derick Phillips, and an RBI single by Collins during the second inning supplied the early offense for the Las Cruces Vaqueros.
Izaiah Guerrero ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He allowed nine runs in 1 2/3 innings, walked three and struck out two.
The Las Cruces Vaqueros pounded the Las Vegas Train Robbers pitching, as nine hitters combined for 24 hits, 23 RBIs and 25 runs scored.
